The Concordia College Alabama Division of Education held a Literacy Festival, themed “The Magic of Literacy,” for all second grade students in the Selma City, Dallas County, Lowndes County, and Wilcox County school systems. More than 400 students attended the event, designed to encourage reading and promote the importance of literature.
Students who participated in the festival saw a live theatrical performance of Dr. Seuss’ The Cat in the Hat 一道本不卡免费高清as well as a literary dramatization entitled “Shades of Black,” both performed by CCA students. The fun continued throughout the day as each student also received a free book, had a Disney sing-along with the Selma High School choir, enjoyed a refreshing slushy snack, played in bouncy houses, danced to music from the CCA marching band, and had a hotdog picnic lunch. The students were also visited by the lovable characters Mickey Mouse, Goofy, Big Bird, Elmo, Cookie Monster and The Cat in the Hat.
The festival was co-sponsored by International Paper, who provided partial funding for the event. Local Greek organizations, educational sororities, and honor societies also lent a hand by donating books and/or volunteering their time and resources to ensure the success of the event.
