I take great delight in welcoming you to the Division of Business and Computer Information Systems. The Division of Business and Computer Information Systems is a flagship division that provides a wealth of knowledge to prepare you for the work force ahead. In our division, we not only provide theory, but practicum knowledge that can be beneficial for you as well as organizations that you plan to embark upon.
 

It is an honor to return to Concordia as Dean of the Division of Business and Computer Information Systems as I am a graduate of this great institution. For over 90 years, our students, faculty, staff and alumni have continued a tradition of excellence that has brought local, state, national, and international recognition to our business academic offerings.

The Associate of Arts degree in Applied Management offers students the specific training needed to advance their career in business management, but with the opportunity to take an elective course that is geared toward their professional career.  Courses are focused on the areas of general business, accounting, specialized management, and computer applications.  Upon graduation, students can be prepared for a variety of entry-level positions including such areas as small business management, sales and office supervision.  The Associate of Arts in Applied Management program is an excellent way for graduates and current students of other programs to enhance their careers, especially since all of their degree credits transfer into the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration program with additional courses required.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

ADMISSION TO THE BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION PROGRAM

Read and complete the application form of admission in the Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. Submit the form to the Division of Business and Computer Information Systems by the designated deadline date for the semester.

Application for admission to the BS degree in Business Administration Program must be filed with the Chair of The Division of Business and Computer Information at least one semester prior to the semester of desired admission.  The applicant must successfully complete all admission requirements.

Requirements are as follows:

  • Complete BUS 131 Introduction to Business with a grade of C or above.
  • Earn a C or better in English Comp. I and II
  • Earn a C or better in College Algebra
  • Earn an overall grade point average of 2.0 in the general education studies.
  • Complete 24 or more semester hours by the end of the semester in which the application is submitted.
  • Successfully passed all portions of the institution’s proficiency exam

Upon receipt of the completed applications, applicants will be officially notified of their status.

What information will you need in order to complete the application process?

  • The applicant will need to complete the application.
  • The applicant must schedule an appointment with his/her advisor after completing the application.
  • The applicant’s advisor will sign and date the application to verify that he/she has reviewed the application and that the applicant has met all the above requirements.

**It is the applicant’s responsibility to make sure that the following documents are on file in the Division of Business and Compute information by the designated deadline.

  • Application form
  • Copies of transcripts from all college(s) attended have been received.

The Chair of the Division of Business will check to make sure all pertinent information is documented, completed and on file.Once your application has been approved for having all required information on file (by the deadline date), the Chair of the Division of Business will sign your application, and schedule an interview with the applicant.

Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Management Information Systems

As a multidisciplinary field of study, the Management Information Systems concentration provides the analytical framework and the methodology to analyze, design, develop, implement, and manage complex computer-based information/decision systems. Information is recognized as a resource of the organization and is the common link binding the elements of all functional areas of an organization together. As organizations grow in size and complexity, the need for better and timely information and for improved decision making techniques becomes critical for effective management.

Management Information Systems professionals contribute to and interact with internal customers at every level in an organization’s structure. MIS professionals translate business needs into technology-based solutions, and translate new technology advances into business capabilities. MIS professional, become a valued partner in helping an organization achieve its most important goals.

The Management Information Systems concentration purpose is to prepare students for positions such as; Project manager, Systems analyst, Information systems manager, Program specialist, Computer network architect, Computer software trainer, Computer help desk technician, Database administrator, Desktop publisher, Information systems technician, Multimedia designer, Multimedia developer, Network user support manager, as well as in research functions at information technology industrial research organizations.

Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration concentration in Management

The Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Management is presented and conducted in an overall business context.  The Management concentration is fundamentally designed to prepare its graduates for careers in management in all forms of business and non-business, public or private, foreign or domestic. The objective is to teach the fundamental principles underlying organizations, to emphasize education which will improve students’ thought processes, to provide a familiarity with the analytical tools of management and to develop the student’s ability to use the techniques involved in analyzing and evaluating managerial problems and making sound decisions. Attention is focused on systems and quantitative analysis, behavioral science, the environment and the forces/processes of change within organizations.
The undergraduate program in management combines liberal arts courses with professional education in business, leading to the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in management. The 128-credit degree focuses on the roles and behaviors necessary to become an effective manager: planning, organizing, problem-solving, leading, operating and controlling. The program equips you with the professional skills to run a successful, competitive company, and to productively interact with customers, employees and shareholders. Through specialized courses in organizational behavior, human resource management and labor relations, business and society, international management and cross-cultural behavior, and creating and managing a small business, you will develop a broad knowledge of the inner workings of all types of commerce

The Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Organizational Leadership

The Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in organizational leadership examines the practices, theories, issues, and ramifications of leading an organization or business. The multidisciplinary curriculum provides an understanding of management, administration, human resources, and technology related to today’s complex organizations in the public, private or non-profit sectors.  Student will explore the social and cultural aspects of business and how they impact organizational effectiveness. The program will teach students the key leadership techniques for maximizing human capital as well as exploring theories of organizational behavior and study leadership skills that drive results.
Through the curriculum in the concentration of Organizational Leadership, students will review the managerial and supervisory behavior of successful leaders. Students can gain insight into the complex nature of organizational leadership; become knowledgeable about personal, social, and contextual influences in organizations; and understand how to exercise leadership in organizational settings. Also students can also acquire the tools they need to understand the interrelated interests of management, workers, unions, and the public.
